MOVIE REVIEW: Pink Butterfly

Trending News

Happy New Year, everyone! We had a wonderful time last year and are grateful to welcome this New Year with all of you. Here’s to hoping for bigger and better things in 2025!

This past year brought us memorable movies both locally and internationally, including titles like “Suspicion,” “Seven Doors,” “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” and “The Fall Guy,” just to name a few.
One of the late entries for 2024 is “Pink Butterfly,” which was released on December 21st. It centers around a cybercrime agent, Yetunde Tejumola (played by Shalewa Ashafa), who is not accustomed to a flashy lifestyle and always follows the rules. She must go undercover as a glamorous influencer to find incriminating evidence to convict a notorious cyber fraudster named Golden Chains (Gregory Ojefua).

From the opening scene of the movie, I concluded that it was intended to be a comedy, so I didn’t focus too much on the acting. The story had a nice premise, but it would have made more sense if the director had applied some real-world logic to the film. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it based on the overall mood.

The main issue I had with the movie was the lack of attention to detail. For example, during the chase at the beginning, Rising Money (played by Broda Shaggi) jumped from a floor in the hotel where he was staying to the ground in an attempt to avoid arrest.

He landed on a car, yet there was nothing to indicate that he sustained any damage that would impair his speed. Meanwhile, Yetunde, who was chasing him, had to use the stairs to get down and still managed to catch up to him—like how?

Additionally, during the climax of the movie, the villains could have easily approached them from the numerous windows to capture them during the shooting, but somehow, an international drug dealer is portrayed as being that naive.

Would I recommend watching it? While the movie has its moments, it falls short of being a must-watch. But it’s not a terrible movie. My overall rating for this film is a 4/10. Do you agree with my review? Let me know what you think in the comments section!
