“As the Sunflower Whispers” is a 2025 American documentary directed by Samuel Felinton. The film digs into the untold stories of Ukrainian refugees affected by the Russo-Ukrainian War, highlighting personal accounts and the resilience of those impacted.

The documentary begins with the onset of the Russian invasion in 2022 and follows a dedicated group from Huntington, West Virginia—comprising teachers, students, and community members—who unite under the banner of MUkraine. Their mission is to shed light on the experiences of Ukrainians caught in the devastation of war. Through over 150 video podcasts, the film presents interviews with refugees, frontline workers, journalists, and families directly affected by the conflict. These narratives offer a poignant insight into the human cost of the war and the enduring spirit of the Ukrainian people.

The film premiered on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center in Huntington, West Virginia. A subsequent screening took place on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Marshall University’s Drinko Library, with President Brad Smith in attendance. Both events were free to the public and included brief receptions following the viewings.

The movie offers a compelling and heartfelt exploration of the Ukrainian refugee experience, emphasizing the strength and resilience of individuals amidst the turmoil of war.
