28 Years Later is the highly anticipated third installment in the 28 Days Later franchise, marking the return of director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland to the series they first launched in 2002. Starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes, the film shows a world still reeling from the devastating effects of the Rage virus nearly three decades after the initial outbreak.
The story follows a father and son who leave the safety of their isolated island community, venturing onto the mainland, where they uncover shocking truths, remnants of the past, and new terrors that have evolved in the years since civilization’s collapse.
Scheduled for release on June 20, 2025, the movie is being filmed alongside its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta, as part of a newly planned trilogy. The first trailer, released on December 10, 2024, features a chilling narration of Rudyard Kipling’s poem Boots by actor Taylor Holmes, quickly going viral with over 10 million views in just two days.
Fans are particularly excited about the possibility of Cillian Murphy making a return. While he serves as an executive producer on the film, speculation is growing that he may retain his role as Jim, a character who became a defining figure in the original movie.
